Time management tips for moms with toddlers

Sunday, August 28th, 2022

Yikes it’s already 4:00pm, where did the time go???!!

This is how many moms feel whenever they check the time and know they still have a ton of undone household chores and other important things that they must not forget to do.

Time management is an area of life that many busy mom’s have little or no success in. A huge percentage of moms don’t know how to manage and plan their time because they may not know how that time impacts their productivity level.

This is probably why you are here reading about time management tips for moms.

Working hard to get things done every day no matter the cost isn’t always the best way to do life. This is because you may end of sacrificing quality time that should be spent with your family.

Having a never ending list of tasks that you must get done every day is absolutely unrealistic and is the recipe for a high stress level life.

In this article, we will share with you some vital time management tips that will make it possible for you to have a productive and quality life without sacrificing your self, your health, your partner, your children or even your job.

Practical Time management tips:

What are your priorities?

Moms usually have a truck load of responsibilities in the household (such as laundry, cooking, paying bills, and so on) and not a lot of time to spend.

When the care of toddlers or a baby is added to the mix, that’s a whole new level.

This is why writing a list of tasks and highlighting the tasks you consider priority in a planner or calendar will help you to be a productive mom.

As a busy mom, your priority list comprises of those important things that must be done every day or every week.

These tasks may include doing the laundry, cooking dinner, dropping your children off at school, grocery shopping, keeping your house clean, and other tasks that needs to get done.

While other tasks or chores that are not as urgent can be listed after.

Let’s learn more about how to manage and maintain a healthy household while staying cool, calm and collected!

How to get everything done

Moms can reduce their stress levels by going through life one day at a time.

If you try to tackle and complete all the tasks at once, you will be overwhelmed and crushed by the weight.

This is why following a routine and a schedule are important time management tips to save time and get things done without delay.

Are you a morning person?

This is a question that should make you reflect and ask yourself whether you are the type of mom that is a happy early riser and can easily focus on a task list without feeling overwhelmed.

If this is you, then try to place your priorities in the morning rather than later in the day.

But if you are not one to happily wake up early to complete your routine and tasks in your schedule, accept the fact that you may need to embrace a new lifestyle.

Waking up early to start your day is so important for a mom not to feel bombarded by her job of managing a home or even a business.

Benefits of using a daily schedule

These are some of the many benefits of using a daily schedule.

  1. Using a daily schedule as a time management tool helps to keep your week organized.
  2. It Gives you something to focuS on when you wake up in the morning, which reduces the amount of time wasted.
  3. Helps you to identify your priorities.
  4. A schedule is also useful because it guides you in the decisions you make every day.
  5. Managing the well being of your house , Partner, children and your self is made easier and stress free.
  6. With a functional schedule, you get to spend time with your family to make lasting memories. instead of spending hours doing laundry, going grocery shopPING and cooking meals.

Have a routine for yourself

As simple as this may sound it is an absolute game changer if you are consistent.

Audit your time

Set aside a day or a week to do a time audit. With this you would be able to find out how you spend your time each day. More specifically, how long it takes for you to conveniently complete a task.

When this is done you’ll be able to create a realistic morning and evening routine.

There are certain things moms do everyday that has become not only a routine but also a habit. These tasks usually stay in the same order everyday.

Here is an example of a routine that starts in the morning.

Wake up an hour or two before the children.

Brush your teeth

Exercise (go for a brisk walk outside or do a work out)

Have a shower and get dressed for the day

Spend sometime praying, meditating, reading a book or whatever you do before conquering the tasks of the day.

Evening routines are also awesome to have aftER dinner.

You may decide to put the dinner plates in the dishwasher, pick toys and organize the house.

Move frozen items you’ll use use to cook meals the next day from the freezer to the refrigerator.

Bathe your baby and make sure all the kids are ready for bed.

After you tuck them in, and read them a bedtime story, take some time to do some self care before you sleep.

Time Management Tips for moms with toddlers

Your routine should include what works for you and your family!

Have a routine for your kids

Having a routine for your kids and even your baby (if possible) is a great way to atay organized.

Time blocking

This time management tip is essential to all moms. This helps you to stay off the sofa and reduces the use of social media.

Time blocking is a method of time management that involves blocking certain times of the day in your schedule to do certain tasks. So you basically know what to do at a certain time when you check your daily schedule.

If you decide to adopt the time blocking system, your schedule may look like this:

6:00am-8:00am get kids ready for school and have them eat breakfast

8:00am-9:00am drop the kids off at school

10:30am-1:00pm manage your business

1:00pm-3:00pm get lunch ready and prep dinner

4:00pm-6:00pm spend quality time with family

6:00pm-8:00pm have dinner and get kids ready for bed

9:00pm-10:00pm self care

This schedule is an example of how a mom can decide to divide her tasks into time blocks.

Delegate tasks

You can’t do everything by yourself!

Responsibilities besides the immediate care your family needs can be delegated. Observe what tasks suck up your time and energy. Ask yourself what you can achieve with the same amount of time if you delegate the task to someone. Then search for the person or business that can be hired to carry out the task while you focus on the other priorities of the day.

Use online services

You can make your life as a mom easier and save several hours by using your phone productively.

If you don’t have the time to walk or drive to a grocery store to do some shopping because you still have chores to do. You may find an online grocery store that offers free delivery of goods to your house when you are done shopping .

To do other tasks that might seem daunting, search for online platforms that offer the services that you need. There is so much available, you just need to search online for the best option that works for you.

Prioritize your health

Get enough sleep!

It is so easy to overlook and sometimes forget the importance of sleep. Getting enough sleep will reduce stress during the day and help boost your productivity because your mind and body wont have to go through the feeling of constantly bring exhausted. Because without rest, you are actually super tired from trying to maintain a schedule while running after children in diapers every day!

Eat healthy!

Eating healthy cannot be over emphasised. Moms are specialized at watching after everyone in the family. Every meal is prepared with so much thought and love.

Hey mom!

Next time, don’t let your self stay too busy that you forget to eat a healthy meal every day If the week.

This is why meal planning is so necessary to manage your health and that of your family members.

Enjoy your mom life!

There are so many ideas of what you can do in your free time.

You may want to spend an evening or a week with your partner and kids a way from all the responsibilities at home.

Try to always challenge yourself to learn something new. This could be knitting, sewing, an online course, photography or tips on proper housekeeping. Do whatever interests you and keep learning.

Having a hobby such as swimming, reading, watching a movie, shopping or even baking delightful foreign treats can be very relaxing.

Moms don’t forget!

The reason for using these time management tips is to work smarter not harder.

Time management

Whether you are a new mom thinking of starting your own business or you already have a successful business but you are struggling with having time for your kids. Being able to manage and save time is so important.

To achieve that balanced life we all long to have, time management is a skill that is necessary for all busy mompreneurs. This skill simply requires creating an every day system that helps you to focus.

Before we go into the important time management tips in this blog post. let us talk about how your mindset and expectations affect your time management and productivity in your business and family life.

Have a vision

As moms with big goals and different challenging tasks, it is helpful to create a realistic image of who you want to be. This is because it will help you focus on your priorities. It also guides you to know how to write a schedule and manage your everyday tasks and responsibilities. This simply means planning how your family, business, and even you as a mother can have success in different areas of life.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself as you create the picture of who you want to become in a matter of time.

What kind of mom would you like to be?

Do you want to work from home or have a work space out of the home for your business?

Are you willing to make your business a full-time job?

How would you want to balance your mom life and business as you work at making more profit?

Will you need someone to care for your kids while you work?

Do you desire more flexibility?

Can your health handle the stress that may come with starting or managing a business?

There are so many other questions that you can ask yourself as you create images that would lead to your goal.

Looking at the lives of other moms in business can give you more insight into what to expect as busy mompreneurs.

Best time management tips for a successful business

There are so many tools that are used to manage and boost productivity in businesses. Take a look at these awesome tips.

Building habits

Are you a mom that claims there is not enough time to be as productive as you want to be? Consider taking a look at how you can improve your habits.

Here are some helpful habits that keep moms on track and increase productivity:

  1. Every evening, try to write a list of the tasks for the next day.
  2. Try to do a few things like washing the dishes, tidying up the rooms, and setting out clothes for the kids and the meals for the next day before going to sleep.
  3. Planning and creating a schedule for your kids to follow will help you not to lose track.
  4. As a mom, you need to get up an hour or 30 minutes earlier than your kids. This will give you some time to knock off a few tasks on your to-do list.
  5. Fill a cup of water to drink in the morning before having coffee. This helps to gently awaken your body and it keeps you healthy.
  6. Create time for yourself in the morning, whether it is to work out, pray, meditate, or read a book.
  7. Don’t give up if you don’t complete all the tasks you planned to accomplish. Get up, try again and conquer those challenging tasks!

Creating a schedule

When we started researching time management, we noticed that many moms struggle to create an effective schedule.

Coming up with a realistic schedule is the most important time management tip that will help save time, increase productivity, and guarantee success in managing your home and family life.

It is necessary for you to be able to distinguish between important tasks and menial tasks. Your schedule should cover not just your business but must include your home life, social life, and any other area.

Following a schedule requires discipline to complete a task within the time required. Determination to be disciplined is helpful because it will push you to complete your goals, one task at a time. This is especially necessary when you have kids.

Before writing a schedule, list the tasks that you expect to do within the week. You can decide to use your Sunday or Saturday evenings to plan your tasks for the week. Make a list of the things you want to do. Include your domestic chores and any business-related work.

This is an idea of what your list of tasks could look like:

1. Clean the kitchen

  1. Do the laundry
  2. Take Lucas to his appointment with the dentist.
  3. Respond to emails
  4. Call your best friend Melissa
  5. Mow the lawn
  6. Help decorate your neighbor’s living room for her granddaughter’s birthday.
  7. Go on Instagram
  8. Call some clients
  9. And most importantly, saying NO to distractions.

More on creating a schedule

Time audit

You may not be able to excel in time management without carrying out a time audit. It is so helpful and important because it lets you know how you’ve been spending your time.

This is done by observing and keeping track of the time you spend doing different activities (like cooking, cleaning, responding to emails, using social media, and playing with your children) every day.

When you have done this, write it out and analyze the result. Adjust areas you feel have taken too much of your time or need more time.

Doing this will improve how we manage our time.

Time block

Have you ever heard of time blocking? If you haven’t or if you are not sure how to apply it. Now is a good time to grab a notepad and a pencil. You may wonder, why pencil and not my favorite pen. This is because writing a schedule isn’t something you get perfectly the first time. You’ll need to make changes many times before arriving at the best time management game plan made for you.

Time blocking is one of the major time management tips. It is simply a blend of your to-do list and a calendar. It helps to ensure that you can work on all your tasks.

The first step to take in time blocking is to list the activities and tasks you are involved with on a daily or weekly basis and the approximate time you need to do it. The next thing is to map out a plan of how you will spend your day by blocking certain periods to do each task.

This makes it possible to tick off many tasks on your list within 24 hours because the way you will spend your time is all planned out.

Ask for help!

There is absolutely nothing shameful in asking for help. If you are result driven and want to check as many tasks on your to-do list, you need to be able to ask for help.

Many mom entrepreneurs are trapped in the “do it all by yourself” mindset. They belittle themselves if a situation or task pushes them to delegate tasks, hire someone or even ask their family or friends for help

Hello, supermoms out there!! Make life easier for yourself. Be a wise woman and ask for help!!!

Let us be honest being a mom and a business owner is normally not easy, but this can change if you delegate jobs. You may have some challenging tasks that are on your to-do list. Take advantage of people or businesses that offer services that you can use.

Here are some helpful tips for handling certain situations and tasks

  1. If you need to attend a conference that will greatly impact your business but you are not sure of what to do with your kids. Try asking your spouse, a trusted friend, or a family member to help watch them. You can also hire a reliable babysitter.
  2. Let’s say you’ve swallowed up business activities and active kids. You haven’t had the time to attack your ever-growing laundry. This is the time to search for a good laundry business you can hand over the task to and pay for their services.
  3. If you have noticed you spend a whole lot of time sealing and packaging your products at the expense of making lasting memories with your family. Hire someone to take over the packaging aspect of your business.

Self-care

As a mom with a full-time job caring for your family and business, the expression ” all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” is so true. Especially for busy moms. Unfortunately, many women entrepreneurs overlook this and instead fill their week with many tasks.

Busy mompreneurs have a hard time giving themselves a break. This is because so many things (kids, partners, work, etc) are pulling for their attention and they find it difficult to press pause and take a deep breath.

Having quality time set apart to rest and refresh yourself will not only help you to spend valuable time by yourself or with your family. It will also help you to be more productive in your businesses.

There are some key areas that mom entrepreneurs must not ignore.

• Physical wellbeing

•Spiritual wellbeing

•Emotional wellbeing

•And mental wellbeing

Self care Ideas
  1. Take morning walks
  2. Engage in spiritual activities like praying and meditation.
  3. Treat yourself to a massage session either once a month or once a week.
  4. Eat well and exercise.
  5. Or simply make a nice cup of coffee or tea for your to enjoy while you work.

All these are great tips that will always help you manage your time, ease the pressure and enjoy your everyday life.

BE FLEXIBLE

Tradition has played a very important role in how moms run their homes. The media doesn’t really help to be honest. Perfect pictures on social media put moms under pressure to be “perfect moms”.

There is a major comparison and perception when it comes to what being a ‘great mom’ is. There’s the theory of attachment vs Independence, working mom vs stay at home moms; breastfeeding moms vs bottle fed moms and what to feed your toddler and what not. The question is not “what is right” vs “what is wrong”.

The question is “what is best for your family at this moment?” At momleader, we believe that a mom understands her needs and her family’ needs and she is flexible without judgement or overwhelming mom-guilt.

BALANCE

Moms juggle a lot. We know this because we ARE moms.

A Momleader understands balance because she has access to resources, lessons, hacks and tips that will help her have a balanced life at home, work, business or in the community. A momleader understands the importance of taking care and nurturing herself and knowing her priorities. When your family and goals are set, your intent of the day is known. We coach moms on how to be structured in aligning their goals and setting out to achieve them however, sometimes, that isn’t always possible and life happens. You can plan 10 things to do in a day and neither of them get done because your child is sick, or you are going through some fussy toddler times, or things just aren’t working for that day. We all know that children are not born with a manual – We all became moms the moment we were given our new born with no prior training. No matter how prepared we were to be a mom – when the real motherhood kicked in; we found out that we were not prepared!

We believe moms should be willing to take risks as well. Not everything tried and true will work for you! Remember that. You have to try new things and adjust – just because it didn’t work for your children once, try, try again! As we’ve been learning, they change their mind!

A momleader to us picks her battles, is organised, is able to adjust and has a positive mental attitude. Balance is key. You wanted to workout in the morning and your children wouldn’t let you because they were fighting and you were running late so you couldn’t get to the groceries. Stop and reflect. You still have the rest of the day to tackle these things. Put the time constraint and “time pressure” off of you and work in task based mode or in time blocks. Did you work out at all today even if it was in the evening? Did you end up going for a walk with the children as a flexible compromise instead of doing your normal gym routine? Did you throw in the towel today on everything because mentally you just weren’t “on”? Trust me moms. We know what you go through. Don’t mom-guilt yourself! We can be our biggest enemies. The biggest things I tell my clients is give yourself the flexibility to be human as well. For instance, you are allowed to say “I’m busy”. (I’m busy doing nothing and no I don’t want to get together with anyone because I am still in my pj’s and I don’t really want to clean my house…..) Thats ok! Don’t guilt yourself on it. Sometimes we can stay in that realm of having to get everything done but we need to be flexible in getting things done when we can – for example, I type this post as my child is in the bath. Another example is have some mental down time by showing up to your kid’s school 10 min early. There are ways to allow yourself some freedom of the task list. You just need to know where to bend and how to be flexible.

What’s really important to us is that our mom leaders understand their personal needs and their family’ needs and that they are flexible without judgement or overwhelming mom-guilt. So, talk to us. What’s your biggest challenge in achieving proper balance?

BE A HIGH PERFORMER: Our core value

Happy Momleader Monday. We are excited to share with you our next core value which is being a High performer.

A Momleader is a High Performer, that is, we know what we want, and we put in the work everyday to be the very best version of ourselves. We are intentional in developing ourselves and we are willing to learn from others. It means that we are not afraid to get feedback from our trusted sources and other people in our lives to help us be better moms. There is no pride in asking for help and advice from a momma that has been there. Heck, we can all use some tips every now and then.

For us, being a mom leader also means it is not about perfection, it is about getting the job done well and quickly.  We are not afraid to say, “No” – which can be really hard for moms who put a lot of pressure on themselves to do everything. Sometimes we have to allow ourselves to settle for the “this is good enough”. Do the towels really have to be washed today or can you simply put them in the dryer and fold them until tomorrow? Does the kitchen floor really have to be both swept and mopped? Don’t fall into the trap of doing everything everyday and having to have your home perfect. I had a client that naturally put that pressure on herself and she had to re-shift her mindset on this. There are a lot of time saving techniques that can be implemented that can help in being efficient at home as well without sacrificing your personal standards. You might say, yes, the kitchen has to be done, yes, I must wipe down the cupboards everyday, Yes, I have to have that bed made perfectly or I can’t function. That’s fine. Adopt the tools that can help you succeed. Perhaps being a high performer means doing online grocery shopping or having a friend help you with dinner or meal prep. I encourage you to think of ways you can save time and bring more efficiency into your home.

What are some of your favourite ways to save time? What “No’s” do you struggle with the most?

BE A LEADER: OUR CORE VALUE

Welcome to our very first momleader monday! On the blog today, we will be discussing our very first core value of Momleader: Leadership.

Many people ask me why mom LEADER? This is really the founding block of who we are.

What does Leadership mean? Leadership is influence. We know that Great leaders don’t use their “positional” powers to bring about change; they use their “personal” power. What is their personal power? INFLUENCE. Every mom has the ability to add value in their home. As a Momleader, we use our personal power – empathy, problem solving skills, resilience, ability to prioritize, adapt, make tough calls and our personality to influence our children so that the world will be a better place. When you are a Momleader, you are a great leader in your home; when you are Great leader – you are an INFLUENCER!

Remember moms, no matter what influence you have, you are bringing it to the table everyday in your home and with your children. We need to harness that influence and make sure it is aligning with who we are and our family goals. How are you influencing and leading in your home?

International Women’ Day – Salute to all moms!

SALUTE TO MOMS

“I need you to stop doing that right now, am I clear?!?”

That was me shouting out those words to my high-spirited-four-year-old daughter. In that moment, I realised that I sounded like my mom – Ooops!

Today is March 8th, 2019 – International Women’ Day. If you ask me who do I want to celebrate today – “MY MOM!”

WHY?!?!

Pretty simple, I love her of-course!

Funny is as a little girl, I had an endless list of things she could do differently and how she should have done it.

From wondering why she wouldn’t want me to indulge in certain things to wondering why I can’t watch TV after a certain time or eat what I wanted and when… My list was endless!

One minute, she was the best mom in the world, the next she wasn’t!

Being a mom myself (of two beautiful girls). I have come to realize that most of the things my mom did was because she was a mom!

When I was much younger, my mom was working full time, running her own business and raising 5 High spirited children:

Wow, what an amazing woman!

When I had my baby, I was over the moon. The moment I left the hospital with my bundle of joy – the first question I asked was:

“How did my mom do this?!?”

So today, this International Women’ Day – My respect goes out to my mom – and in fact all women out there.

Being a mom made me realize that women are more poweful than we want to think or even accept!

We have the power to do amazing things!

Much respect to all WOMEN!!!

For all moms out there – don’t forget to take some time for yourself – check my blogpost here >>>>on self care!

You are doing a great job! here are also some ideas on how you can show love to your children here >>>

I know you are not appreciated (as such!) – but Happy International Women’ Day

Much respect, SALUTE!!!

Seven Practical Ways You Can Show Love To Your Children

SEVEN PRACTICAL WAYS YOU CAN SHOW LOVE TO YOUR CHILDREN

I get this most times from Moms in my MomLeader Coaching Programs.
I often ask this question: “Do you show love to your children, that is;
You love your children but do they know that?”

Tweet this

Pretty ironic right?!?

Here are Seven (7)n Practical Ways You Can Show Love To Your Child.

PS: It is NEVER to late or too early to start.

1. TELL THEM YOU LOVE THEM:
This seems like a no-brainer right!?

Life can get busy that all we communicate to our children is what they are not doing right or their schedules, what is expected of them etc.

We forget at times to tell them what they need to hear (even though the child will not admit it! lol).

They need to hear it from you that you love them…PERIOD!…Say it!

2. PRAISE THEM:

This is kind of tied in with you telling your child you love them, that is, how you show love to your children.

Praising them is something you have to do consciously especially when you are going through difficult times with your child. Because of moms “nurturer” nature, we often only see EVERYTHING that needs to be fixed and we NEGLECT the things that are going on well. Find the good in your child and praise them for it

3. LISTEN TO YOUR CHILD;

9 out of 10, the biggest issue we had with our parents was that they didn’t listen to us…so Mommas, why aren’t  we listening to our children?

Always adopt this Steve Covey Effective Listening style which is:

“Seek first to Understand, then to be Understood”.

That is, concentrate on what is being said; rather concentrating on your response.

4. BE PRESENT:

Doing more than one task at once seems great because it allows us to get so many things done in a limited amount of time.

The disadvantage is that we tend not to be present while carrying a task.

When spending time with your child, be present.

All you need to do is create a time block for your child, with no interruption and with you being fully present.

This is definitely important if you want to show love to your children.

5. LAX THE RULES ONCE IN A WHILE:
It is awesome to have a schedule with the children especially when dealing with younger children.

But every now and then, it is okay to lax the rules.

How about if they stay up  late on a Friday night and watch a goofy movie with you or eat their breakfast in bed on Saturday morning…whatever you know they would like, lax the rules and watch their faces light up…Priceless!

6. SURPRISE THEM:

Everyone loves a good surprise – not just on Birthdays!

But remember, it is about them and not about you; so bear that in mind when choosing either what to give them or  what activity to do.

Do your research and NAIL it!

7. CREATE FAMILY TIME:

This concept is super important because it creates and nurtures closeness between family especially siblings. It is just like how companies have Team building programs with their staff members to encourage Team Dynamics.

By taking time off and being diligent with Family Time will not only create great Team Dynamics with your children, it is also a way you can show your family that you love them!
